What does everyone think about this....I was browsing around on the net this morning and went onto the cyber journalism website. They've posted ethical guidelines for model blogging....very similar to the SPJ's code. Does everyone agree that there should be a code of ethics? I see the point, but at the same time, i'm not speaking for or representing a company or a group...i'm speaking on behalf of myself and myself only.. which makes me ask....do we really need ethics in the blogging world if we're speaking our minds?
Check out the link...a discussion has started at the bottom. Kind of interesting to see what others are saying on the issue.

From what angle to approach this question? First, I'm guessing that most of us in this class have read things on line that we thought were unethical. We feel cheated if we discover that a blog we had come to rely on routinely makes things up. Therefore, I think most of us want bloggers to have a transparent code of ethics and to adhere to it. That's my view. The question is the degree to which online ethics would differ from regular journalism ethics. This *is* something we will talk about later on. Another bit of opinion: Such a system of blogger ethics would obviously be voluntary, just as any system of ethics is voluntary unless an employer enforces it. We must also keep in mind that bloggers have no special set of rights that makes them immune to libel prosecution.
